Terry Jones joined The CDI Group in January 2006 as a Partner after having sold his last company. Terry is one of those rare managers and leaders who functions equally well in the entrepreneurial world and the “pin-stripe” M&A world.

Terry started his career in 1973 in specialty retail with Herman’s Word of Sporting Goods. Terry progressed thru the ranks of this then 92 store chain, managing the #1 store until he was recruited in 1982 by Granada Video International. At the time, Granada had operations in 22 countries, including 18 US cites. At Granada, Terry, the Washington Area Manager reported directly to the company President in London. This gave Terry his first exposure to International Business. In 1985 Terry joined Erol’s, Inc. as General Manager of the Services Division. At the time this was a $7 Mil division, reporting directly to the company President and CEO. One of the area’s of expertise Terry came away from this retail leadership experience was in the sale and rental of technology products and services.

In 1990, his retail/technology expertise caused Terry to be recruited by American Computer Rental, Inc (ACR) and American Computer Technology (ACT). Here, he was Vice-President and General Manager of the $ 12 Mil company operations of ACR and ACT Mid-Atlantic Regional Companies. Terry reported directly to the President and CEO of ACR and ACT. Terry’s ACT company was a Value-Added- Reseller for SUN, HP, Compaq, IBM and Apple. Terry’s ACR company was a computer rental and services company. In 1994, Terry was responsible for the negotiations and due diligence of sale of these companies to AmeriData Computer Rental, Inc. Terry joined AmeriData Computer Rental, Inc. as Executive Vice President responsible for the national operations of this PC and Workstation rental company. In this EVP position, Terry was also responsible for the integration of a large regional company, $12 mil with a small national $11 mil company, the preparation and implementation of business plans. Terry reported to the President and Chairman of AmeriData Computer Rental, Inc.

In 1996, Terry moved from the entrepreneurial world to the “pin-stripe” world of GE Capital when GE Capital acquired AmeriData Computer Rental, Inc. At GE Capital – Technology Management Services, Terry was Vice-President, Acquisitions & Business Development. In this position at GE, he was responsible for the development of growth opportunities through acquisitions, joint ventures, equity partnerships and new financial products. Terry was also responsible for development, agreement negotiations, due diligence and coordination of integration of acquisitions. During this time Terry handled several transactions ranging from 20 million to 190 million. Terry was also successful in obtaining several credit vehicles in excess of 20 million.

The experience at GE Capital – Technology Management Services enabled Terry to look at many different acquisition opportunities. In 1998, Terry decided to move back to the entrepreneurial world in a company ownership capacity. He and his partner acquired COMPUMART, a twenty-six year old company selling computer data products to the Government, Commercial and Educational markets. In his role as President and COO, over the next eight years, Terry transitioned his company from a VAR of Storage Media and Services to a leading and very successful IT Security Solutions Provider. In that process, Terry also acquired and developed two very successful GSA Schedules to facilitate being a Government Contractor. In 2004, with both of his children recently graduated from college, Terry wanted to sell his company. He knew enough about M&A and running a company, that it was better for him to keep his attention on continuing the success of his company and have someone manage the sale of his company. Terry interviewed several mid-market M&A Advisory firms, including The CDI Group. The CDI Group was chosen to represent Terry and his partner in the sale of their company. The CDI Group created and managed a successful sale transaction in late 2005.

Terry joined The CDI Group as a Partner in January 2006. Terry concentrates on providing M&A Advisory Services and Valuation Services for technology driven companies, Government Contractors, IT networking engineering and service companies. Terry is also in charge of developing those vertical practice area’s for the firm on a national and international basis.

In addition to his past and current business successes, Terry is very active as a volunteer Mentor with the Orphan Foundation of America, for many years was a Coach in the local Youth League in Basketball and Baseball. Terry has served on the Advisory Boards Data Storage Industry Advisory Council and the CMP Technology Advisory Board. Terry is a frequent speaker in the area of IT Security.
